While both dresses and saris use cotton, silk, and synthetic materials, dress fabrics are diverse and includes rigid fabrics (denim, canvas) or knits that are not commonly used for traditional saris. On the other hand, sari fabrics are chosen for their ability to drape (chiffon, georgette, silk) elegantly and with somewhat unusual motifs and designs.
